NATIONAL HEALTH EDUCATION PROGRAM

  National Health Education, Information and Communication   (According to Annual Report 2075/76, DoHS, Nepal)      Ø Established in 1993 AD under department of health services. Ø This center is responsible for developing, producing and disseminating message to promote and support specific all health related programs and services in an integrated manner. Ø NHEICC program have been placed in 75 districts since FY 2051/52 (1995 AD). Ø Health education section was established under DOHS in 1965 AD. Ø Health education is health promotion. Ø First health education program was introduced in Nepal in Rapti valley . Ø Health education center was established under DOHS in 1960 AD. FCHV Program

  Female Community Health Volunteer Program   (According to Annual Report 2075/76, DoHS, Nepal)   Ø FY 2045/46(1988/89 AD): GoN initiated FCHVs program in 27 districts . Ø FY 2050 (1993 AD): Expanded to 28 district on the basic of population. Ø 1995 AD : Expanded to all 75 districts in phase manner. Ø FY 2060 (2003AD): National FCHV Program strategy was revised . Ø 2006 AD: National survey for FCHVs was conducted to access existing situation of volunteers. Ø FCHVs celebrated day – 5 th December. Ø FCHVs are selected by mother’s group . Ø The FCHVs program is externally supported by USAIDs, UNICEF, UNFPA and Other NGOs. Ø FCHVs are provided 18 days basic training in 2 phases (9+9) days on selected primary health care components. Kala-azar Elimination Program

     Kala-azar Elimination   Program  (According to Annual Report 2075/76, DoHS, Nepal) Ø    Kala-azar (visceral leismaniasis) is  endemic  in  12 Terai districts. Ø    Parsa district has no incidence of kala-azar Ø    More than  8.5 million  people are risk to kala-azar Ø    1960-1970 AD (2017-2027 BS):  problem of kala-azar was seen as public health problem in Nepal. Ø    MoH has targeted to eliminate kala-azar from Nepal by  2015. Ø    Kala-azar elimination program is a regional collaborative partnership between  Nepal, India and Bangladesh. Lymphatic Filariasis Program

      Lymphatic Filariasis  Program  (According to Annual Report 2075/76, DoHS, Nepal) Ø   Lymphatic filariasis mapping  was completed in  2005  and remapping in  2012 by ICT (immunochromatography). Ø   EDCD has formulated  a national plan of action (2003-2020)  for elimination of lymphatic filariasis in Nepal. Ø   2003 AD : Government had initiated Mass Drug Admission  (MDA)  in  parsa  district . Ø   61 districts  are  endemic  from lymphatic filariasis. Ø   25 millionpopulations  are at risk for LF in 60 indemic districts. Ø   Mass Drug Admission (MDA)  stopped in  25 districts Ø   The average  prevalence  of Lymphatic Filariasis is  13% .
